We are husband and wife team David and Sally Walker who each have over 30 years experience of owning dogs, cats and other small animals as well as caring for those belonging to family and friends. Sally has also owned a number of horses and has competed in one day events and dressage. Additionally, she has a wealth of experience in dealing with people’s requirements during her career in retail and human resources management.
In February 2009 I was made redundant after 21 years working for a printing company and although a rest from the factory was more than welcome, retirement was not an option. After discussing the possibilities and realising there was a growing need, particularly for dogs , we set up Walker’s Walkies with the primary aim of helping pets whose owners may be absent for various reasons and who may be looking for an alternative to kennels and catteries.
Currently we have two dogs of our own : Rolf , a Black Labrador we acquired as a puppy in 2004 and Sadie , a Jack Russell X Cavalier King Charles who we adopted in 2012 when she was 8yo. Sadie was in fact a customer of ours at the time when her elderly owner died suddenly just before Christmas and we were asked by the family if we would consider adopting her. Having looked after her for over 2 years , we knew she’d settle in as she already knew most of the dogs we cared for, most importantly our own two, Rolf and Norris (our black terrier cross who was 17 at the time) so it was a formality.
Sadie and Norris became inseparable and walked with Sally every morning and most afternoons from then on until Norris died in January 2016.
If interested you can read more about the star that was Norris on his own page, “Norris’s Story”
At present (August 2016) we are in our 8th year and have a solid base of regular customers and a steady stream of ‘as and when’ visitors, the majority of which have come via recommendations from existing clients.
